Half marathon pace chart: pace per km and per mile, with 5K/10K/15K/20K splits for every goal time
A half marathon is 21.0975 km (13.1094 miles). The chart below turns every goal time from 1:15 to 3:00 into the pace you need per kilometre and per mile, and the clock you should see at 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, 10 miles and 20 km if you run it evenly. Print it, write the splits on your arm, or — better — put the plan on your wrist and let the Watch hold you to it.

Even-split times; the last 1.0975 km is run at the same pace. Rounded to the second.
How to use the chart
- Pick a realistic goal. A recent 10K time × 2.1 is a fair half marathon prediction for a trained runner; ×2.2 if your long runs are short.
- Read across: a 1:45 half is 4:59/km — 5 km in 24:53, 10 km in 49:46, 15 km in 1:14:39, 20 km in 1:39:32.
- Check the 10 km split on the day. If you're more than a minute ahead of the chart at 10 km, you started too fast; the second half will collect the debt.
Even, negative or positive split?
The chart is an even split. Most personal bests are run as a slight negative split — the second half a touch faster — and most blow-ups as a large positive one. The negative split calculator takes the same goal time and gives you kilometre-by-kilometre targets that start a few seconds slower and finish faster; the marathon and half marathon pacing guide covers hills, fuelling and what to do when the plan slips.
Running the plan on Apple Watch
Apple's Workout app can show a pace alert around one target. Vanoor turns the whole plan into the run: pick half marathon, type the goal time, choose even or negative split, sync — and on the wrist you see the target band for the current kilometre, whether you're inside it, and seconds ahead of or behind plan, with a haptic when you drift. No arithmetic at 18 km.
Half marathon pace — quick answers
What pace is a 2-hour half marathon?
5:41 per km, or 9:09 per mile. 10 km in 56:53, 20 km in 1:53:45.
What pace is a 1:30 half marathon?
4:16 per km, or 6:52 per mile — 10 km in 42:40.
Should I run a half marathon at an even pace?
Even to slightly negative. Use the chart for the even version and the negative split calculator if you want the second half a few seconds per km faster.
Can my Apple Watch show these splits during the race?
Apple's app shows one pace alert; Vanoor shows the target band for each kilometre of the plan and buzzes when you leave it.
